About Me
Hi! My name is Maya L’Abbe and I am originally from Seattle, WA but am now based in Brooklyn, NY. I earned my BFA in Musical Theatre from CAP21/Molloy University in 2024.
My goal is to create art that is bold and joyful and inspirational. I have always found theater to be a space that invites community—whether onstage or off. To be able to work together with a group of artists to inspire conversation or a change in heart is so beautiful and hopeful—it’s something that I always aim to do.
Another thing I am passionate about is honest representation. I am a first generation Japanese American. Growing up consuming media specifically about asian girls—the content was mostly geared towards being shy or quiet or meek. It felt so limiting and from this generalization consumed by the public, people would make assumptions about me. But that is barely scraping the surface of who I am and who asian girls can be. Sure I can be shy or quiet but that doesn’t encompass my whole being. I am also loud and goofy and caring and loyal. This is something I always try to be conscious about in influencing the next generation of artists.
I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to sing and dance and tell stories. There is nothing in the world like it.
I am currently seeking representation!!
Now for some random tidbits…
-I love (!!!!) tv shows some of my favorites include: Hacks, Fleabag, The Pitt, Shrinking
Currently watching: Veronica Mars (quite odd for me but I’m thoroughly enjoying it)
-Collecting little trinkets: especially mini totoro’s, miffy’s or moomin’s :))
-Making my own iced honey lavender latte
-I love my girl (dog) Yuzu so much (as pictured on the right actively trying to steal my cookie)
-I have come to enjoy watercoloring in my spare time :)) Lots of dogs and animated foods and whatnot!
-I am such a fan of Michael Cera (especially his music). He was my top artist in 2023 and I actually made it to his top 100 listeners.
